• San Benito High School hosts Murphy Race Featured

  It’s been used to play football, soccer, track and field events and has served as a venue to multiple extracurricular events, but recently, participants at Bobby Morrow Stadium had a race of a different kind as San Benito High School hosted the first-ever Murphy Race. The event featured electric race cars designed and built by students as part the the Green Power Electric Car initiative.
  
  San Benito, Harlingen, Santa Rosa and other Valley students participated. San Benito High School Math Teacher and STEMS sponsor Mary Maney explained that San Benito, Santa Rosa and La Feria took advantage of the initiative, which began a year ago, at the request of UTRGV. The goal is to provide advances in education in the area of sustainable engineering and technology. San Benito has two teams and boasts the only all-female team in the Valley, according to Maney.

• San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy | Campus Spotlight Featured

  San Benito Veterans Memorial Academy principal Gilbert Galvan is quite impressed with the unique layout of his campus. The various components of the facility give its students a genuine feel for the college experience, and the Texas Success Initiative Assessment, better known as the “TSI test,” is administered to determine the appropriate level of college course work for incoming students.
  
  Among the many programs available to students are NJROTC, After School Program, before/after school tutorials, cheer and dance, athletics, and a variety of music programs. The various components of the Health Science Technology Program and the technology tools available to students help reinforce that early college readiness is one of the campus’ main initiatives.
  
  “You have to be a team for your campus to shine, and we do!” says Galvan.

• SBHS AV Production earns first at state! Featured

  Congratulations to San Benito High School's Advanced AV Production students instructed by Joel Rodriguez for earning a first place win at state with a CyberSecurity PSA entry. The entry was submitted to the Texas Department of Information Resources as a 2018 Texas DIR CyberSecurity
  Awareness PSA. The team will be receiving an award in the coming weeks. The State of Texas joined the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its partners across the country to highlight the importance of cybersecurity and online safety for The National
  CyberSecurity Awareness Month during October. Students competed in categories, including Phishing, Social Media, Mobile Devices and Hacking. San Benito High School Advanced AV Production won first place in the Phishing Awareness Category.

  “Shoes That Fit” representatives recently visited Fred Booth Elementary. Shoes That Fit, a non-profit organization that provides new shoes to low-income children, helps provide thousands of shoes for children nationwide. Locally, a total of 30 Fred Booth students received new shoes!
