Introduction
As the Director of the Family and Community Engagement Department, Luis Gonzales has over thirty-five years of public sector experience, with twenty-two years of service at San Benito CISD. He is a product of San Benito Schools attending Fred Booth Elementary, Miller Jordan Jr. High, and is a proud 1983 graduate of San Benito High School. While attending Texas Southmost College, the University of Texas at Austin, and UTRGV, Luis attained an associate's degree in natural science and a bachelor's degree in political science and English.

San Benito CISD Career
During his tenure at San Benito CISD, Luis has been an elementary and high school site coordinator, a director of a 21st Century Grant, and a grants administrator for the after-school program. He provided grant implementation, compliance monitoring, internal grant evaluation services, and administrative guidance for the award-winning district chess program.

In 2007, Luis was assigned to the Parental Involvement Department as a coordinator. As of 2012, he was promoted to supervise all department services including Title I Parental Involvement services, Student Attendance and Truancy, and designated as the McKinney Vento Homeless Liaison, Foster Care Liaison, and the Student Disciplinary Hearing Officer.
Under his leadership, the department has evolved by expanding its staff and operations; while improving its scope of community services and transforming into the Family and Community Engagement Department.

Community Engagement
Luis participates with the United Way of Northern Cameron County - serving on the board of directors and a past president, a Civil Service Commissioner for the City of San Benito, and has been a dedicated supporter and show announcer for the San Benito High School Mighty Greyhound Marching Band.

Goals
Luis' 2020-2021 goal was to create and host virtual parent sessions for San Benito CISD students, parents, families, and the San Benito community. These sessions provide current information on the outreach services available through the district departments, community agencies, and civic organizations.
