Lady Hounds - "Strike Out Cancer" Awareness Softball Game

San Benito Lady Hounds and Weslaco East Lady Wildcats softball players came together for a common cause during the teams’ “Strike Out Cancer” awareness softball game. All monies raised – a total of $900 – from a portion of the sale of player jerseys and fan shirts as well as from the “strike out” buckets passed around during the odd innings were donated to the American Cancer Society in McAllen.

Little Greyhound Relays introduced elementary students to the sport of track and field – including the disciplines of running, jumping, and throwing. The fun-filled event was designed to help participants to enjoy the sport and also to encourage them to possibly participate in middle school and high school track and field.

San Benito CISD district leaders encourage students to stay ahead of the learning curve–even when school lets out for summer! The goal this is to have participating students and community members read 5,000 books this summer. Through the use of Kindle Fire devices, participants will be able to access more than 6,000 digital books, thanks to a partnership with MyOn Reader, an on-line digital library from Capstone books.
