Berta Cabaza Middle School principal Saul Ibarra explains how “San Benito Junior High” was renamed around 1974 to honor a longtime educator – Berta Cabaza. Mr. Ybarra states that because he and many staff members come from humble and low socio-economic class backgrounds, they are able to reassure their over 850 students that they, too, can overcome their struggles.
The band, choir, and athletics programs bring great pride to Greypup territory! Robotics and coding programs are available, and students can also earn high school credit in courses such as Spanish and Algebra. Technology-based initiatives include Epson projectors and the nearly “one to one” student to Chromebook initiative.
“We are a humble people,” says Ybarra, adding that Berta Cabaza Middle School is a family-oriented atmosphere.
