Forensic Audit Report

San Benito CISD Releases Forensic Audit Findings

The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees received the final forensic audit report from Weaver & Tidwell, LLP on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, summarizing a multi-months-long investigation.

While many specifics of the final report were discussed in executive session, a Weaver & Tidwell, LLP investigator provided a general overview of findings during the open session portion of the special meeting.

Members of the Board of Trustees present at the special meeting reviewed the final report to (1) verify that all key questions were answered and (2) carefully evaluate sharing the document with the general public.  After a 5 - 0 vote in favor of publicly releasing the forensic audit report with necessary redaction, it is hereby available for public view.

“San Benito CISD is focused on complete transparency as we move our district forward.  The forensic audit has revealed areas of concern that will be remediated immediately,” said Superintendent of Schools Theresa Servellon.

“Under the current administration, the District has implemented multiple measures to ensure all acquisitions of goods and services are obtained in accordance with board policy and Texas law.  Commencing the 2022-2023 school year, teachers and instructional assistants received the $100 supply allotment via their campus budget.  All cumulative purchases with vendors that exceed $25,000 have been taken to the school board for approval.  Cost saving measures have been applied after a deep dive into our local, state, and federal budgets.  The realignment of these funding sources has proven to be advantageous in meeting our school district’s goals,” explained Servellon.

“I look forward to working with the school board and district administrators to examine each of the forensic audit’s recommendations and will implement appropriate change for the betterment of San Benito CISD,” Servellon concluded.

“Trustees will work collaboratively with district administrators to ensure that steps are taken to promptly and efficiently remediate the areas of concern,” said Ramiro M. Moreno, President of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees.

“San Benito CISD is committed to moving forward, fostering a brighter outlook for our district and continuously doing what is best for our students,Moreno added.
