Steps to Becoming a Guest (Substitute) Teacher:
Step 1
Submit a new employment application or update an existing one. Be sure to select the open vacancy desired and position desired, respectively: Job ID 2859 | Guest Teacher (Pool) (2026-2027 School Year) | Substitute Teacher
Step 2
Once the required online employment application has been completed, updated (if applicable), and officially submitted, each prospective Guest Teacher must attend a mandatory in-person Pre-Employment Orientation conducted by the Human Resources Department. Attendance at this orientation is a required step in the hiring process and must be completed before an individual can be onboarded and hired.
Please note that attendance at the 2026 Guest Teacher Pre-Employment Orientation is mandatory for employment consideration. However, the orientation is unpaid, and no compensation will be provided for time spent attending the session.
Step 3
Once you have been officially onboarded as a Guest Teacher, you will be granted access to the District’s Frontline Absence Management System. Through Frontline, you may search for and accept available 4-hour or 8-hour substitute teaching assignments. The first day of student instruction for the 2026–2027 school year is Monday, August 10, 2026.

Please note that the current job description for the Guest Teacher position includes the following education and certification requirements for non-degreed applicants:
- A high school diploma –OR– General Educational Development (GED) certificate –AND–
- A minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university –OR– successful completion of an approved substitute teacher training course.
Non-degreed applicants will be required to upload a copy of their high school diploma –OR– GED certificate –AND– an official transcript reflecting the required college/university credit hours –OR– the official certificate of completion for the approved training course.
Degreed applicants will be required to upload an official college transcript reflecting the degree conferred and date received.
Degreed-certified applicants will be required to upload an official college transcript reflecting the degree conferred and date received –AND– a copy of their SBEC Official Record of Educator Certificate.

How to upload a document to an online employment application via FrontlineWhen uploading a document to an existing online employment application, please follow these steps:
- log into the application via the SBCISD Job Portal,

click the “Edit” button;

go to the “Education” section;
-
enter the name and location of the educational institution as shown below – for Region One substitute certification certificates, please enter “Region One ESC, Edinburg, TX;”

click on the “Add File(s)” link; and
-
follow the prompts to upload the document(s).
