Health Screenings

Compliance with Texas and Health Safety Code requirements for vision, hearing, and spinal screenings is required for the 2024-2025 school year.

In lieu of the screenings provided by the school: (1) parents or guardians may provide screening record signed by a licensed professional, or (2) parents or guardians may provide signed statement that the vision, hearing, or spinal screening conflicts with the tenets and practices of a church or religious denomination of which the affant is an adherent or member.

Vision & Hearing Screenings

Who Must Be Screened	When Screening Must Be Done
• 4-year-old (by Sept. 1) • Kindergartners • New to district (4 years through 12th grade)	Within 120 days of admission
• 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade	Anytime within the school year, but preferably within the first semester

Spinal Screenings

Who Must Be Screened	When Screening Must Be Done
Girls	Fall semester of 5th grade Fall semester of 7th grade
Boys	Fall semester of 8th grade

Acanthosis Screenings

Students will be screened for acanthosis anytime a vision, hearing, or spinal screening is performed.
