The DAISY Award Recipients
SBCISD proudly congratulates our first DAISY Award recipient - Nurse Estefana Villalpando, RN from Riverside Middle School.
2024-2025 DAISY Award-Winning Nomination
Nurse Villalpando shows that she cares and understands the needs of our community. Given we’re a low-income school, our kids sometimes don’t have the most basic of needs. One of those items many of us might take for granted but many of our kids don’t have and is an important hygiene item is a toothbrush. Nurse Villalpando recognized this need and quickly answered the call by calling a local dentistry office, building a community partnership and securing not only a few toothbrushes but a brand new toothbrush for every single student! That’s over 570 tooth brushes. This enormous contribution was only possible because the community partnership saw that Nurse Villalpando is truly passionate and has a deep sense of care and duty to our kids and their well-being. What others might consider a simple gesture or a small item, in this case, has made an enormous impact as it has provided our students a source of confidence. What teenage student doesn’t already have insecurities? But with this item in hand, we saw so many students smiling and happily making their way home knowing they now have a way to take care of their oral hygiene. The impact is enormous and it’s these types of actions that make our Nurse a super nurse! Beyond this, she is a huge contributor to our school community as she also supports our Cheer squad, coaches our 6th Grade volleyball teams in the local Boys and Girls Club, and supports our afterschool program with our initiative to build the next generation of student athletic trainers to support the overall health, treatment and security of our student-athletes. Again, I am simply amazed by her overall contribution to our school and her above and beyond service to our community and she is a true example of what the Daisy Award is all about.
