Medical Director - Dr. Syed Shah
San Benito CISD is proud to announce that Dr. Syed K. Shah has agreed to partner with SBCISD and serve as our district’s Medical Director. Dr. Shah has agreed to provide our district with standing orders, including stock emergency medications. In addition, he looks forward to providing education and training to the SBCISD Health Services Dept. and the San Benito CISD community.
Dr. Shah was born in a small village in Punjab, Pakistan and spent his formative years in the same town, which he describes as very similar to Texas. He attended Punjab Medical College and graduated in 1999. He practiced primary care for 6 years and then moved to the USA in 2005. He did research on gastric reflux disease in obese children at Yale University New Haven, CT. He worked at Columbia University NY as a Post Doc in the field of Surgery. He completed his Pediatric Residency from Bronx-Lebanon in New York and was awarded as the “Best Resident of Year” twice. He developed an interest in the field of Neonatal Medicine Intensive Care. He completed his fellowship in Neonatal Medicine from the University of Rochester, NY.
Dr. Shah is a Board-Certified Pediatrician and Neonatologist. From 2014-2020, he was an Assistant Professor at University of Texas San Antonio. Currently, Dr. Shah serves in many different capacities in the Rio Grande Valley. He is an Attending Neonatologist at Driscoll Children’s Hospital (2020- Present) and Harlingen Medical Center (2023-present). He is also the Medical Director at Valley Baptist Medical Center. His passion for community service is unmatched, and he is serving as CEO of Cute Pediatrics and training our future health professional as a Community Assistant Professor at UTRGV.
Dr. Shah has been happily married to his wife, Mahima, for 24 years. They have four children that keep them very busy! Zeemal is 21 years old and is studying at the University of Texas in Austin. Zain is 18 years old and is studying at Texas A&M College Station. Zoraiz is 13 years old and their youngest child, Zaviyar is 10 years old.
Dr. Shah enjoys playing cricket and baseball. He plays cricket professionally for the Austin Jaguars. He also enjoys watching soccer and football.
Dr. Shah is passionate about teaching our future generations. His pediatric offices, Cute Pediatrics (located in Harlingen and Brownsville), are dedicated to training medical assistants, physician assistants and medical students to assist them in fulfilling their dreams.
