The DAISY Award
San Benito CISD is proud to announce that we have partnered with The DAISY Foundation to show appreciation to our extraordinatory nurses.
What is The DAISY Foundation?
The DAISY Foundation was created to honor the memory and legacy of J. Patrick Barnes. In 1999, at the age of 33, Mr. Barnes was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia). During his hospitalization Mr. Barnes experience great clinical care, as well as incredible kindness and compassion from his nurses. After Mr. Barnes died, his family wanted to honor him. According to The DAISY Foundation website, "Mr. Barnes was driven by a desire to befriend others and help them in any way he could. His legacy is clear: whenever he came across anyone in need, he never turned his back. He reached out to comfort, to make them feel okay. The DAISY Foundation was established to keep his very special spirit alive". Mr. Barnes' wife, Tena, developed the acronym DAISY, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System and then the recognition program was started at the University of Washington Medical Center, where Mr. Barnes had been a patient.
Who is eligible to Receive The DAISY Award?
All school nurses (RNs and LVNs) are eligible; however, to receive the award, the nurse must be in good standing with SBCISD and employed at the time of award presentation.
How will a nurse be nominated?
Students, parents, staff, visitors, and families can nominate a nurse by utilizing the online form.
Who chooses the Honoree?
The DAISY Honoree is selected by the SBCISD DAISY Committee. The committee includes:

The window for nominating a nurse is year round.

The DAISY Honoree will be recognized on National School Nurses' Day.
