Objectives

I. The Instructional Materials Department adheres to all state accountability standards.

 

A. Conduct district Instructional Material Department inventory.
B. Conduct campus instructional material department inventories.
C. Implement accountability procedures.
D. Provide instructional material management and accountability training to administrator designees upon request.

 

II. Schools and students shall have all the instructional materials needed.

A. Verify membership in a timely manner.
B. Submit instructional material purchase orders by May to ensure summer deliveries.
C. Follow-up with publishers on the shipment of instructional materials.
D. Adhere to textbook adoption timelines.
E. Secure additional temporary staff for the processing and delivery of new materials as needed.
F. Secure vehicle for textbook delivery prior to start of school year.

 

III. Instructional Materials Department operations are cost-effective.

A. Implement automation of district inventory.
B. Provide regular training on instructional material operations procedures.
C. Conduct unannounced audits of campus instructional materials operations for implementation of management and operations procedures.

 

IV. Teachers will have full access to all technology components that come with each instructional material adoption.

A. Invite Instructional Technologist staff to participate in the instructional material adoption process.
B. Develop list of technology components that come with each textbook adoption.
C. Develop a technology support timeline with the Technology Department and Instructional Technologists for the installation of software that comes with the adoption and for the training in the use of that software.
D. Hold regular meetings with IT Director and Instructional Technologists to monitor the implementation of the technology support timeline.

 

V. Instructional Materials are standards based and aligned to district’s instructional model.

A. Develop instructional materials evaluation tool that integrates district and national standards and district instructional model components to review instructional materials up for adoption.
B. Ensure that instructional materials adoption committee includes administrative representative from the academic team impacted by the instructional material adoption.
C. Provide training for the instructional materials adoption committee on the use of the instructional materials evaluation tool.
D. Based on needs of the instructional materials adoption committee, review standards and instructional model components.
E. Meet regularly for thorough review of materials up for adoption.
F. Hold discussions comparing strengths and weaknesses of each program/system in regards to standards and instructional model.
G. Recommend for adoption instructional materials that meet standards and are closest aligned to district’s instructional model.

 

VI. Provide pertinent department information on the district’s web page.

A. Work with web master for the creation of a department web page.
B. Submit instructional material operating procedures for posting on web page.
C. Submit training and meeting schedules for posting on web page.
D. Submit regular updates of department activities for posting on web page
