2024: 04/16/24 La Paloma Sensory Room

The sensory room is designed to cater to the diverse needs of students, especially those whose disabilities hinder emotional regulation. Each element in the room is carefully selected to stimulate different senses and promote relaxation and focus. Soft lighting and calming colors create a soothing atmosphere for students to unwind and recharge. Textured walls and tactile materials offer sensory stimulation for touch and feel. Background music provides auditory input to create a peaceful environment. The sensory room gives students a safe space to regulate their emotions and sensory experiences, which they may not have access to anywhere else. La Paloma Elementary teachers and administration report that they have seen favorable behavioral changes in their students since introducing them to the sensory room. Thank you to occupational therapist Bettina Cisneros for putting her heart into leading this project, and a big round of applause to all who contributed to the fruition of this sensory room.
