Lightspan Lab
A comprehensive curriculum program that utilizes playstations to run educational programs that tutor students to increase achievement in reading, language and mathematics. Students in Grades 1-3 attend the lab, 2 per TV and play station, and practice skills taught in the classroom for 30 minute sessions.

Media Lab
A computer lab that makes use of Kid Pix Studio Deluxe to develop basic computer skills as well as higher order thinking skills. Jumpstart for Pre K-2 is also used to sharpen basic skills in reading and math. Internet is also available to students in this lab.

Library
The Library Media Center activities are conducted by Mr. L. M. Gutierrez and are in relation to the success of the campus in helping all learners achieve their full educational potential. Our flexible scheduling program has enabled all students complete access to the informational sources at the time of need without having to wait. Encyclopedia Britannica, Proquest Direct, Information Please are just a few of the many online services available to students and staff via the Internet. Students' reading goals are met by having the library accessible for book assistance and attainment before and beyond the school day. The library media specialist collaborates closely with teachers to organize and prepare learning activities in the Library Media Center. Our Reading Renaissance Program is also motivated by the incentives provided by the Library Media Center. The library media specialist provides lessons and activities that promote curiosity and the intrinsic need for more information and the love for reading which fosters life long-learners.

ETR - Expressways to Reading
Expressways to Reading is a masterful system which profoundly affects the storage and retrieval of knowledge in the brain. It is a system that works with learners of all ages and has proven to be effective for those who have not been able to master reading in the usual classroom setting.

Science and Technology Lab
The Science and Technology Lab consists of two components: the Electro-lab and the Discovery Lab. The Electro-lab is equipped with computers where students can supplement their classroom lessons through the use of computer software. The Discovery Lab is a totally hands-on lab with an exploration design. The instructor in the Discovery Lab offers brief lectures and reinforces key concepts.

Gifted and Talented
In keeping with the district's commitment to excellence in education for all students, the gifted and talented program at Ed Downs recognizes this commitment and fosters and develops the abilities of gifted and talented students. Gifted and Talented students are served by teachers in special homogeneously grouped gifted and talented classes in grades 1 through 5. These special classes employ a differentiated curriculum that extends beyond the essential elements of the regular school curriculum and provide experiences that are consistent with abilities or potential of the gifted child.
